The Hockey Wildcats salvaged the long trip out west with a 5-2 victory over Sacred Heart on Saturday in Denver. Phil Fox led the way with 2 goals. Phil was named to the Denver Cup All-Tournament Team for his 3 goal performance over two games. Freshman Reid Ellingson played between the pipes and stopped 28 of 30 shots for the game. NMU found themselves down 1-0 and 2-1 in the game, but thanks to their efforts on the powerplay (2 for 6), they were able to tie and over-take the Pioneers. A nod should also go to Mark Olver for assisting on 4 goals for the tournament. Mark now has 14 points in the campaign, while playing in only 15 games.
Next on deck is a big home series against Notre Dame on January 4 and 5 at the Berry.
