It was exactly 15 years ago on this night that the NMU Wildcats won the 1991 National Championship 8-7 against Boston University. It was in the 3rd overtime when Daryl Plandowski scored the game winner at 1:57 from Mark Beaufait and Team Captain Dean Antos. This game went down in NCAA history as one of the greatest championship games ever. The late Tom Mees of ESPN was quoted as saying this was the greatest college hockey game of all time.

The game was also filled with numerous future NHL players. From NMU, Brad Werenka, Ed Ward, Dallas Drake, and Jim Hiller all played in the NHL. Dallas Drake is presently playing with the St. Louis Blues. From BU, everyone remembers Amonte, McEachern and Tkachuk. This was truly one of the all time college hockey championship classics.
