Matt Butcher, a recent Verbal Committment to NMU for the 2006-07 season was drafted #138 of the 5th Round by the Vancouver Canucks in yesterday’s 2005 NHL Entry Draft. Matt, a member of the Chilliwack Chiefs, scored 27 goals and 30 assists for 57 points in 60 games as a forward during the 2004-05 BCHL season. He is listed at 18 years old, 6′1″ and 185 pounds with a potential big time NHL game. He is the son of Garth Butcher, the former Canuck defenceman from 1984 to 1991. Before he follows in his father’s footsteps with the Canuck organization, the NMU program is anticipated to become his home in the fall of 2006. As Walt continues to bring in big time pro recruits to NMU, the future will become very bright for Wildcat hockey!
